As an artist, Brisueña's philosophy stems from the idea that while we are complex individuals, we are made of the same elements or structures as the universe.
Brisueña transforms her daydreams into visual experiences and performances that explore her place in this world. As a bicultural Puerto Rican woman she can’t help but make reality a magical experience that transcends our understanding of culture in a globalized world.
the process:
- lead with curiosity: I follow where my mind wonders.
- experiments: a lot of my work comes from experimenting. for example, finding ways of placing my body to best portray a character.
- archives: my work contains items from my family archive, ancestry, and our my personal life.
- bending disciplines: example, using charcoal and movement to explore the theme of Climate Change or mixing animation with video performances.
